I'm Just Talking Here

I like running my big fat mouth via keyboard and internet. I like sharing what I know in hopes it improves things for someone and I'm very socially observant.

I've spent a lot of years trying to find ways to mitigate problems like:

1. People feeling like I'm dictating answers to them rather than just trying to add information to their decision-making process.

2. In online forums, people squeeing at me like I'm a celebrity, thereby sucking the life out of the conversation and promoting drama.

3. People lining up in two groups as either strongly FOR my "position" or strongly AGAINST it! I would rather we all tell our story to create a database of experiences so the person asking the question has options.

4. Trying to account for the internet having a highly diverse audience, so no matter what I say, some people are likely to misinterpret something. I work very hard at including provisos, warnings, links to background information and other safety things.

I like talking. I'm not trying to run your life. I mostly don't like giving advice.

I like adding information and letting people decide what's pertinent to their needs. And I hate a long list of social garbage that makes it both difficult and socially unpleasant to just be chatty and friendly and try to share information.

So after years and years of miserable experiences trying to engage in discussion in various ways, the least worst answer I've found so far is blogging.

I like writing. I don't like how socially isolated I've become and I hate how poor I am and how impossible it seems to be to solve that problem.

If my words piss you off or something for some reason, dude, get a grip. Close the tab and look elsewhere for what you need. I don't control you and I don't have some kind of monopoly here.

Me and Languages

My mother's mother came from a low level German noble family. Mom was born and mostly raised in Danzig, a very cosmopolitan freistadt (independent city state), except for the years that the family spent in the country during World War II to try to safeguard everyone as best they could. When the war ended, she found herself in the newly created communist East Germany where she was required to take Russian in school, which is why I know a few words of Russian. She left East Germany to return her sister's baby to her , so she was a young illegal immigrant in West Germany when she met my father at a party. She spoke extremely proper High German. His American accent plus the fact that he mostly learned German from farmers, meant she couldn't understand a word he spoke and she asked someone what language he was speaking. My older sister was born in Germany. Her first language was actually German and she translated for my parents while she was a toddler. So I grew up in a bilingua...

Medical care in the US

This is a thought I've had a long time: If you served in the US military and were honorably discharged , you should get medical benefits for the rest of your life . That would drastically reduce the need for Obamacare which is a lousy solution to what's wrong with American healthcare. We have some of the best medical stuff in the world -- IF you're rich. In fact, people travel here to get it -- IF they're rich. Meanwhile, most of our people are left out in the cold and living with stupid levels of stress about the COST of medical care, etc. We should not be putting the health of wealthy foreigners above that of the American people. I mean unless you WANT the world to invade, take us over and etc. The people who raised their right hand and swore to give their life for their country and were honorably discharged should be told by actions, not words, "You are the kind of people America values." Obamacare just plays into this bullshit medical system where money ...

POV

1953 – 2025 U.S. Relations With Iran Deeply unpopular among much of the population, the shah relies on U.S. support to remain in power until his overthrow in 1979. I turned fourteen in 1979. Navarre likely turned 31 and perhaps was finally released from prison. We didn't really speak much of it, so my understanding of those events and how that impacts his life is limited. My understanding is he spent three years in prison for his political activism and got married at age 28. I'm guessing he was newly married when he got locked up for reasons I was never told. Of his release, what I know is that he learned French in prison and was about to start studying German "when they let him out." I infer that he was expecting to remain in prison and his release was a surprise, so I'm guessing the 1979 revolution is likely the explanation for his seemingly sudden and unexpected release from prison. I saw two headlines today and didn't click into the articles. One said Isra...
