Strike the Pose

I recently tripped across this video:

Elektra's stilleto bootcamp

The character's name is Elektra Abundance or Elektra Wintour from a TV series called Pose that I had not previously heard of.

Of course because I watched it and tried to identify the source, YouTube then began spamming me with clips from the show.

The actress is Dominique Jackson. Wikipedia says: She experienced a traumatic upbringing that included bullying and sexual abuse. due to her transgender identity.

A lot of the clips I'm seeing are very confrontational and uncomfortable to watch. And then I tripped across a clip about Elektra getting evicted from her mother's house and I noped out when her mother becomes physically abusive and turned my attention to adding new content to a trans resource I quietly run but don't in any way promote.

I also run The Genevieve Files, an LGBTQ resource started because the LGBTQ community is at high risk of homelessness and Formulary of Life, a HRT sandbox.

Formulary of Life was started as a political act to take a stand against the current homophobic, transphobic poltical climate but it's also a thought experiment where the concept of providing needle-free, no prescription, no gatekeeping HRT "for the trans community" defines a high bar for what I'm trying to do while I increasingly write about issues like epilepsy and bipolar.

My hat is off to Ms. Jackson. She, in fact, endured abuse at the hands of family and that was likely a hard scene to film.

That scene is unfortunately reality for far too many LGBTQ individuals, probably largely because many of their relatives are closeted LGBTQ individuals who are terrified at the possibility of being outed by a relative openly expressing that identity.

The TV show Pose seems like a jagged little pill to swallow. If it bothers you, try to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Or at least STFU and stay the hell out of the way.

The above sites are some of my efforts to be part of the solution. FYI: I'm a medically handicapped blogger and currently homeless.

So I don't really want to hear anyone's bullshit justifications for why they can't stop being part of the problem. Just in case you were wanting to dump on me and expect me to UNDERSTAND your hateful shit.

The title is from the song Vogue, kind of related to the subject matter of the TV show. Look it up if you have no clue what I'm talking about.

Me and Languages

My mother's mother came from a low level German noble family. Mom was born and mostly raised in Danzig, a very cosmopolitan freistadt (independent city state), except for the years that the family spent in the country during World War II to try to safeguard everyone as best they could. When the war ended, she found herself in the newly created communist East Germany where she was required to take Russian in school, which is why I know a few words of Russian. She left East Germany to return her sister's baby to her , so she was a young illegal immigrant in West Germany when she met my father at a party. She spoke extremely proper High German. His American accent plus the fact that he mostly learned German from farmers, meant she couldn't understand a word he spoke and she asked someone what language he was speaking. My older sister was born in Germany. Her first language was actually German and she translated for my parents while she was a toddler. So I grew up in a bilingua...

Bye

All my respect for  Paul . I thank you for allowing me to fall on my face and make an ass of myself while figuring it the fuck out. I'm alive and mostly physically well, may your good deeds come back to you. All my respect for  Jack . If I hadn't been DEATHLY ill, I imagine I would have married you and remained a big fat fucking nobody, having again gotten my MRS. Instead, I got a growth experience where you also allowed me to fall on my face and figure it the fuck out myself in spite of living in terror that I would take you down with me. The HN moderator Dan   Gackle apparently wants me back , which is not news to me . I have always respected his work. He's a better moderator than the one he replaced -- Paul Graham -- and I learned a lot from him when I'm usually ROLLING my eyes and internally screaming about what IDIOTS most moderators are. But I'm not interested in being a DEI member of the leader board. Thanks, but no thanks. Even if I never participate again ,...

Medical care in the US

This is a thought I've had a long time: If you served in the US military and were honorably discharged , you should get medical benefits for the rest of your life . That would drastically reduce the need for Obamacare which is a lousy solution to what's wrong with American healthcare. We have some of the best medical stuff in the world -- IF you're rich. In fact, people travel here to get it -- IF they're rich. Meanwhile, most of our people are left out in the cold and living with stupid levels of stress about the COST of medical care, etc. We should not be putting the health of wealthy foreigners above that of the American people. I mean unless you WANT the world to invade, take us over and etc. The people who raised their right hand and swore to give their life for their country and were honorably discharged should be told by actions, not words, "You are the kind of people America values." Obamacare just plays into this bullshit medical system where money ...
